Making it Work in Oz
TAFE Outreach programs are closely aligned to the Federal Social Inclusion Agenda ensuring NSW education is accessible to people who face barriers to learning including geographical and social isolation, language and cultural factors, financial hardship, lack of educational confidence, being unaware of opportunities to learn, a disability or family commitments.
Introduction to Childcare to Making it Work
The program began as an Introduction to Childcare studies in partnership with Cambodian Australian Welfare Committee and Cabramatta Schools as Community Centres Project. Currently the program is run with ACL as an added partner providing the venue while the school gets a new building. The programs was developed examining the potential of local Khmer women whilst identifying issues preventing them from moving on to study or work. Many of the women still suffer from the torture and trauma resulting from the Pol Pot era.
The program continues to respond and adapt to stakeholder negotiation, the students being the key voices. For the first time in Semester II 2010 the qualification is a Certificate II in Skills for Work and Training. Achieving a Certificate II will be a significant achievement for many of the participants.
